Seal Rock

After reading this review by Matt Love in Sunday's Oregonian, I pulled out my copy of John Haislip's book of poems, "Seal Rock." A book of beautiful poems set around a beautiful place in Oregon. It was one of the first books of poems I owned. I was married to a poet at the time, who got his MFA at the University of Oregon. John was his advisor and so I got to know John, just a little. I had no idea I'd be writing one day. But the first time I sat around a table, having people read and talk about my writing, I thought of John, how he guided all those students all those years.

I'll treasure this book even more, knowing how few copies there are left out there.
